In order to play along with other musicians in a band or to play along with a song on the radio, all instruments must be in tune with each other.  There are many methods of tuning a guitar, but the easiest is to use some sort of guitar tuner.  Here is a picture of my trusty old Seiko tuner.  I have had this one for many years and it still works well.

In case you do not have a guitar tuner yet or perhaps you just don’t have one handy, I have created on online guitar tuner that you can use for free.  Just click the buttons below to hear a properly tuned guitar string.  For the beginning students, remember that the 6th string is the fattest one at the top of the guitar.
